Economics Frame

http://economist.com/opinion/displayStory.cfm?story_id=3446249

How is it that the Republicans can get a free pass on their stewardship (or lack thereof) of the economy? What is it that is in the minds of voters that lets them believe that the Republicans are remotely competent in terms of running a country like a business?

Is it possible that since the Republicans have laid claim to being "pro-business" that they get to lay false claim to competence by mere association?

And how is it that Ohio, which had the largest loss of manufacturing jobs during the past four years, went for Bush? Once again, working class voters were swayed by divisive social issues and voted against their economic self-interests. (On my reading list is Thomas Frank's "What's the Matter with Kansas? How Conservatives Won the Heart of America" which explains this paradox.)

The fact that Bush is the first "MBA President" certainly doesn't bode well for aspiring businessmen in the future. And it's certainly put a damper on me playing up having an MBA, as well.
